Social Media – Should You Use it for Your Business? Yes!

Jennifer Stoner formed J. Stoner Marketing after recognizing that many small to medium-sized businesses needed assistance with their marketing and public relations efforts to maximize their brand impact. This need has increased with the advent of social media. With her background in marketing and public relations, she knew the time was right to start her business. Using integrated marketing strategies, she helps businesses gain customers and develop their brand identity.

With over 30 years of marketing experience in different areas of the country and a variety of businesses, Stoner is uniquely qualified to help companies. She started her career working for Xerox as a regional marketing representative, spent over a decade in banking, and also worked in healthcare and the non-profit sphere. After moving to Illinois 12 years ago, she worked in higher education for Joliet Junior College and Prairie State College (PSC).

“My passion is helping businesses broadcast their message to create a preference for their brand. For businesses with a limited marketing budget, it is crucial to define who you are trying to reach before you begin your marketing. My strategies will assist in communicating who you are and why people should choose your business,” Stoner said.

Stoner has won national awards for public relations including being named National Council of Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District Three Communicator of the Year (2011), and winning a national NCMPR writing award for a feature story on PSC’s first women president (2011). While heading the marketing and PR department at PSC, her team won over 30 national awards for marketing and PR. In the early 1980s, she was named State Young Career Woman of the Year for the State of Georgia for the Business and Professional Women. In addition, for several years she wrote a monthly newspaper column about higher education for the Northwest Indiana Times.

Stoner has extensive social media experience and was responsible for implementing social media at PSC. Her experience includes developing social media marketing strategies utilizing the appropriate channels for a particular business.  She understands that social media success depends on coordinating social media strategies with all of your marketing activities to ensure your content is communicated effectively and cohesively.

Stoner holds a B.A. in Speech Communication and a B.S. in Mass Communication from Miami University. She has a M.A. in Communication and Training from Governors State University, with a focus on integrated marketing communication.
